Fly to Switzerland

Unless you are coming from a nearby country, the easiest and most popular way to get to Switzerland is by air. Many airlines, including Swiss International Airlines and other major carriers, offer direct flights to Switzerland from major cities around the world. Switzerland has seven international airports, but you will most likely be flying into Zürich or Geneva:

Zürich Airport (Flughafen Zürich) is the largest airport in Switzerland and serves most of the major airlines. (If you’re traveling from somewhere far, like the U.S., you will most likely be flying into Zürich Airport.)

Geneva Airport (Cointrin Airport) is the second-largest airport in Switzerland, located on the French-Swiss border. It’s an excellent option if you are planning to visit the western part of Switzerland. And of course, it is very popular with travelers who are arriving from or departing to French destinations.

Take the Train

Switzerland has an extensive network of trains that connect all major cities and towns in the country. Also, Switzerland is well-connected by rail to all major European cities. The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) operates most of the trains, and they are known for their punctuality and reliability. It’s also a fun way to see more of the country! If you are coming from a neighboring country (for example, Germany, Italy, France, or Austria), you can take a train to Switzerland.

HOT TIP: Depending on your plans, you might want to consider getting the Swiss Travel Pass. It gives you access to unlimited travel on the trains, buses, and boats throughout the country, plus a ton of other benefits. It’s not cheap though, so you should definitely evaluate your travel plans to see if it’s worth it for your situation.

Drive

If you are coming from a neighboring country, you can also go by car. Switzerland has super well-maintained roads and highways, and driving is a convenient way to explore the country at your own pace. Not to mention, you have the freedom to stop for photo ops or to explore whenever you want!

HOT TIP: If you decide to drive, be careful and mindful of the signs. Switzerland has strict driving laws and regulations, including speed limits and tolls. We’ve definitely received a ticket or two in the past.

There you have it! According to your circumstances and with some planning, you will be able to determine the best travel option for your Swiss adventure!
